The music of the Grateful Dead has inspired artist
for many years, perhaps even more so since the death of the great Jerry Garcia.
This means that the music of the Dead continues in a variety of ways; from
bands like RatDog and Further to tribute bands like Dark Star Orchestra and
Dayton’s own Terrapin Moon, the music of the Grateful Dead lives on. That is
why I was stoked to here Terrapin Moon was coming to Canal Street for one of
their few indoor shows of the summer. Maybe I was just ready to hear some Dead,
but I was really looking forward to this night. It didn’t hurt that The John
Mullins Duo was on the bill as well. John and guitarist Chris Connor opened the
show at Canal Street with a bang, getting the crowd primed and ready.

Terrapin Moon is a Grateful Dead tribute band from
Dayton and is a favorite with summer festival goers. The band is playing some
of Ohio’s best summer festivals like; Tribez Vibez, Peace Through the Music
Fest, and the Miami Valley Music Festival. Terrapin Moon is Charlie Roark
(Guitar, Vocals), Steve Schwartz (Drums, Vocals), Dave Devore (Lead Guitar,
Vocals), Bill Kruzenberger (Keyboards, Vocals), and Butch Weaver (Bass,
Vocals). The guys have an impressive repertoire of Dead songs like fan
favorites Casey Jones, Shakedown Street, Goodnight Irene and many more.
However, the band tries to keep fan guessing, featuring a different set of
tunes each night out. Tonight’s show had an added surprise when John Mullins
joined the group on stage.
The first thing you notice is the bands love for the
music and how much fun they have performing. Charlie and the rest of the guys
enjoy themselves on stage, making it easy to get lost in the music and lyrics
we all love. Like I said, I was in the mood for some Grateful Dead and Terrapin
Moon delivered. Even after the show was over, those great Dead tunes were still
dancing inside my head. Thanks guys for giving me my Dead fix! We also want to
thank the John Mullins Duo and of course Canal Street Tavern for letting Buckeye
Music Magazine take part in this great night.
